The Mamod MEC1 or Meccano steam engine was introduced in 1965 and was discontinued in 1979 to be replaced by the Mamod SP3. During its 14 years in production the design never changed but the box changed colour from red to blue. After 1979 approx 83,000 MEC1s had been made.
